Crickets visit NNRH once again this year
May 24, 2024
They’re baaaack! The seasonal migration of "Mormon crickets" has indeed reached Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital. However, so far, there aren’t nearly as many crickets as last year. We want our community to know that the hospital is still a safe place to receive care. Our Plant Operations staff has done an excellent job of ensuring the crickets stay outside where they belong, and our Environmental Services team is working around the clock to keep everything inside clean and sanitary. Please do not delay medical care just because there happen to be a few crickets outside.
We are once again hiring temporary workers to join the NNRH Cricket Patrol. These team members will help escort patients to and from their cars in the event the crickets swarm the parking lot. (So far, our parking lots are mostly clear.) Cricket Patrol members will also work to clear crickets away from the hospital entrances and remove cricket carcasses from the grounds. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and must pass a background check.
UPDATE: The Cricket Patrol positions have been filled. The swarm of crickets has passed through the area and we are now cleaning up after them. We're happy to report that our sidewalks are once again cricket-free!
