NNRH launches intensive outpatient program for mental health
November 05, 2026
ELKO, Nevada – Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (NNRH) recently announced the launch of its new Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), expanding access to high-quality behavioral health services for adults in Elko County and the surrounding region.
The new program provides structured, evidence-based outpatient treatment designed for individuals who need more support than traditional counseling, or who are transitioning from a higher level of care.
NNRH’s IOP treats a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as substance use issues that occur alongside mental health conditions.
“Access to timely, appropriate behavioral health care is critical for the health of our community,” said Steve Simpson, the hospital’s chief executive officer. “This program allows us to meet patients where they are in their recovery and provide the tools and support needed for long-term wellness.”
The IOP is led by licensed behavioral health professionals and includes:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and treatment
- Evidence-based group therapy and education
- Crisis prevention and symptom management tools
- Activity therapy and recovery-focused programming
- Discharge and aftercare planning to support continuity of care
Services are delivered in a flexible outpatient setting, offering structured care while allowing patients to maintain their daily responsibilities.
The launch of the IOP reflects NNRH’s broader commitment to strengthening behavioral health resources in the region and improving access to care beyond the emergency room, ensuring individuals receive the right level of support at the right time.

Over sixty community members and healthcare partners attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new program on Wednesday, November 4th. Those who offered remarks at the ceremony included Jim Winer, a member of the NNRH Board of Trustees, Shamiah Brewster, manager of the NNRH IOP, and Delmo Andreozzi, county commissioner and chairman of the NNRH Board.
