Congratulations to Breanna Southern, the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses here at NNRH! Breanna works in both Acute Care Services and our Intensive Care Unit. She was nominated for this award by two community members. We have included both of their nomination stories below…
First nomination story
“Breanna is very efficient. She cares. And she took the extra time to listen to me. This is very important because sometimes people get confused, and it's important that nurses take the time to listen. Her bubbly personality instantly made me feel better. When you are in the hospital, you already don't feel good and are 'down in the dumps.' It was nice to have Breanna’s personality make me feel better. She is great at her job and gives her whole heart to caring for patients.”
Second nomination story
“My mother was changed to a comfort care status after a week of being in the ICU. I was very upset and not sure if I was making the right decision. Bre saw that I was struggling and took the time to go through the list of medications that she had been on and why they were stopped and what effect each had on her organs. She explained the doctor's prognosis and reassured me about the doctor and the quality of care provided to my mother. I truly believe Bre was there for me emotionally. She helped me understand that the decision I was making, while one of the hardest in my life, was the right one for my mother's situation. Words cannot express my gratitude.”

About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes. He was 33 years old when he died of an auto-immune disease. The Barnes family wanted to do something positive to honor the nurses who had given Patrick such compassionate care during his lengthy illness. So, they established the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. What began as a “thank you” from one family to specific nurses has grown into a meaningful recognition program embraced by thousands of healthcare organizations around the world. Here at NNRH, we are proud to partner with the DAISY Foundation to celebrate our own extraordinary RNs.
