Hospital employees raise $32,000 to fight cancer

ELKO, Nevada – Employees at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (NNRH) raised a grand total of $32,000.00 to fight cancer in conjunction with this year’s Relay For Life event. During the fundraiser, which was held in late July, the employee-led NNRH team raised $16,000.00 to support the American Cancer Society. In the months that have followed, the hospital administration has matched this amount, dollar for dollar, with contributions to the Elko Cancer Network. Representatives from both charitable organizations recently met with hospital staff members to celebrate a record-breaking fundraising season.
“This is the largest amount our hospital has raised in the twenty-plus years we’ve been involved in Relay For Life,” said Steve Simpson, chief executive officer at NNRH. “I’m very proud of our staff members who fundraised for several months and gave very generously to reach this milestone.”
Simpson also described how the hospital’s fundraising efforts support both the national and local fight against cancer.
“We’re pleased to contribute to the American Cancer Society as they fund cancer research and support patients around the country,” Simpson explained. “At the same time, it’s very important to us that at least half these funds stay right here in our community, helping our neighbors who are bravely battling this disease. That’s why we match the Relay amount each year and support the Elko Cancer Network. They are making a tremendous impact in the lives of people right here in Elko County.”
