Shelbi Jones, RN, honored as DAISY Award winner
January 21, 2026
Congratulations to Shelbi Jones, the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses here at NNRH! Shelbi works in our intensive care unit where she routinely provides excellent care for patients and compassionate support for their families. Read what the wife of one of our patients wrote when nominating Shelbi for this award…
Nomination Story
“Recently, very suddenly and unexpectedly, my husband wound up in the ICU. It was very scary and unnerving. My husband had been intubated in the ER in hopes of being able to determine what was happening to him. Shelbi became his nurse in the ICU. Shelbi was an excellent nurse and did everything in her power to ensure my husband was as comfortable as he could be under the circumstances. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw her combing his hair for him while he was unconscious, and wiping his brow with a cool cloth. Shelbi was a comfort not only to my husband, but to our whole family. She went above and beyond her nursing duties and cared for him as if he was her family member. Shelbi helped us understand what was going on and we did not feel so lost. She kept us strong for our loved one. She was there with us the whole time, until they loaded my husband onto a helicopter bound for a Salt Lake hospital. We can’t thank Shelbi enough for her care and comfort during a very difficult time in our lives. My husband is now home and recovering, and I know Shelbi’s care made all the difference. She is a kind, caring person and nurse who has a beautiful soul. I would nominate her for ‘Nurse of the Year’ if I could.”
Congratulations, Shelbi! We all agree this award is very well deserved!

Nominees for the DAISY Award at NNRH, all of them extraordinary nurses!
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes. He was 33 years old when he died of an auto-immune disease. The Barnes family wanted to do something positive to honor the nurses who had given Patrick such compassionate care during his lengthy illness. So, they established the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. What began as a “thank you” from one family to specific nurses has grown into a meaningful recognition program embraced by thousands of healthcare organizations around the world. Here at NNRH, we are proud to partner with the DAISY Foundation to celebrate our own extraordinary RNs.
