ELKO -- Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital held its annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic in the hospital parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 11. Despite rainy conditions, 528 community members attended the event and received a free flu shot.

"We're very grateful for our partnership with Great Basin College. Students in the Nursing program and the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy/EKG program all attended the clinic and administered shots, under the watchful eye of their instructors and our nurses," said NNRH CEO Steve Simpson. "We’re thankful for these volunteers braving the elements on a cold, rainy Saturday morning to make our community healthier."

Simpson also expressed gratitude for the generosity of the community in donating non-perishable food at the event.

"While the flu shots were completely free, we asked folks to bring an optional donation of canned food," Simpson explained. "Throughout the day, we collected 740 pounds of non-perishable food to help fill up the food bank at Friends In Service Helping (FISH). As always, our community showed up in a big way to help out those in need."
