Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital and Great Basin Surgical Center Join Forces
August 1, 2015
Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital (NNRH) and Great Basin Surgical Center (GBSC) are joining forces to enhance healthcare options for residents in northeastern Nevada. NNRH’s pending acquisition of GBSC, which is dependent on regulatory approval, is expected to be take effect August 1.
Under the agreement, GBSC will become a department of NNRH. This move will allow the organizations to leverage their shared commitment to providing quality healthcare close to home and enhancing medical services throughout northeastern Nevada.
JK Meyers, MD, of the GBSC Board said “Very real threats to rural medicine exist, and are already in play, here in Elko. These are best met with unity in the medical community, and a strong voice. These are not trifling matters, and the GBSC Board, and its surgeon members, are committed to answering these threats to practice and patient care."
NNRH’s acquisition of GBSC offers significant benefits to patients and physicians. It expands NNRH’s surgical services and offers two convenient locations for patients. Combining the two organizations will also help improve scheduling flexibility and give patients increased access to surgical services, as surgeons will now be able to perform surgeries or procedures at both locations.
“The healthcare environment continues to evolve, and healthcare providers are collaborating with one another more frequently to find ways to improve care and better serve patients,” said Rick Palagi, CEO of NNRH. “Together our healthcare team and local providers know the unique needs of the region’s patients. We are stronger working as a single team rather than apart.”
GBSC’s transition to NNRH will be seamless. Both organizations will continue to offer the same great services for which they are known with the same professional, courteous staff. For a temporary period, beginning Aug. 1, GBSC will undergo several renovations and construction projects that will enhance the overall patient experience and continue the tradition of safe, convenient surgical care. During this time, all GBSC surgeries will be performed at NNRH.
“We are always looking for these natural opportunities to better serve the needs of the community,” said Brad Owens, chief operating officer of LifePoint Health’s Western Group, of which NNRH is a part. “We are confident that this new relationship will benefit the patients, the surgeons and the employees of GBSC, and we are excited to welcome them into the NNRH and LifePoint Health network.”
In 2014 alone, NNRH contributed nearly $8.5 million to benefit its communities through charity care, taxes and other community programs. This acquisition is one element of NNRH’s strategic plan to invest in the best possible healthcare services to meet the needs of the communities within the northeastern Nevada region and to make those communities healthier.
