Prior to finding his calling as an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Edwards dedicated much time to exploring other careers. He spent several years working construction, framing houses, obtained a CDL and drove semi-trucks through congested California freeways, owned and operated a computer repair and networking business, recorded a Christmas album as a musician, and even worked in the Capecci lab at the University of Utah with Nobel Laureate, Dr. Mario Capecci. While working on his undergraduate degree at Utah Valley University, he founded and served as the president of the Research Club of Utah Valley, which still operates today to promote undergraduate research at the university.
He attended medical school in Phoenix, Arizona where he graduated magna cum laude. He received numerous honors and awards during his schooling, including receiving the Gold TOUCH award twice, an accomplishment achieved by less than 1% of individuals. During his tenure as president, the club logged over 600 hours of community service. In addition, he scored in the top 5% of test takers on his medical licensing exams.
Following medical school, Dr. Edwards completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency in Miami, FL, where he spent 5 years working with more than 70 different surgeons at 9 hospitals and 5 surgery centers gaining exposure and experience in all facets of Orthopedic Surgery. During residency he was elected by his co-residents as a delegate to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He was also elected as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, which oversaw the operations of all residency programs at the hospital. During residency, he served as the sole team physician for ASA College Football where he spent time with the athletes both on and off the field managing and preventing injuries. He also achieved the top score in the entire country (100th percentile) on the annual orthopedics exam during residency.
Dr. Edwards is passionate about all aspects of Orthopedics and enjoys nothing more than improving the quality of life and function of his patients through both surgical and non-surgical techniques.
