NNRH - DECISION ON VBAC PROCEDURES

ELKO, NEVADA, September 14, 2002 – Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital today announced the board of trustee’s decision on VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Section). After an extensive discussion on VBAC, the board of trustees decided to continue the moratorium on VBAC procedures at the hospital. Members of the hospital’s obstetric medical staff and Obstetric/Gynecology Committee were invited to attend a board meeting to communicate their views on performing VBAC “Vaginal Birth After Cesarean” delivery.

The decision to continue the moratorium is based on the inability to meet the American College of Obstetrics Gynecology Practice (ACOG) guidelines to safely provide this service. The Board also stated, “When these services are in place, this action will be reconsidered”.

Alex Poirier, CEO states that the hospital cannot meet the requirements posed by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s (ACOG) Practice guidelines to perform vaginal birth deliveries after cesarean section. When and if the hospital in a position to provide the resources necessary to meet those guidelines, we will reconsider our position.
