Senator Reid visits Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital
Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital staff and guests enjoyed a visit from U.S. Senator Harry Reid, Democrat - Nevada on Saturday August 9, 2003. Reid made the visit to the hospital his first call during a visit to Elko that included an evening fund-raiser at the Red Lion Inn & Casino.
For the past two years Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., has been working to have the department of Veterans Affairs open a Community Based Out-patient Clinic in Elko to serve the estimated 4,700 veterans in the area.
Currently, most Elko-area veterans drive to Salt Lake City for VA health-care services.
Reid, who said the entire Nevada congressional delegation supports bringing a clinic to Elko, vowed to have language included this session of Congress through a Senate subcommittee on veteran’s affairs that will direct the VA to establish a need for medical services here.
