Hospital cares
7/21/03 Letters to the Editor

Editor:

On Monday, July 14, I had to take my husband to Northern Nevada Regional Hospital because he developed a kidney stone and was in a great amount of pain. The care he received there was outstanding! In no time, he was in the emergency room and Dr. Bruce Campbell and the nurses were at his side! We just recently moved to Wendover from the Las Vegas area, and after dealing with the medical care there, it was truly great to discover that there is still a facility that cares about patients. To the staff at NNRH, thank you!!

Quality of care relieves sadness

Editor:

In the course of our lives many events occur, some of which are joyous and some of which are sad. These are events over which we have little or no control. Such an event occurred recently to the family of Eileen Ray. Unfortunately, this was one of those sad events. This letter is to attempt to express how a sad time can be made a little easier for those who are experiencing it. Eileen passed away Friday, Aug. 22, at the Northeastern Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was admitted several days prior with a medical condition that ultimately resulted in her death. From the time she was received in the Emergency room, through the days she spent in ICU, she was treated with the utmost of care, compassion and dignity. The community of Elko is fortunate to have such a fine facility but this structure would have mean very little without the excellent staff it houses. Not only was Eileen treated in this fine manner but every member of her family received the same thoughtfulness and caring. Although Eileen was only a resident for about 16 months, the treatment and care she received from the medical community was exemplary. A special relationship developed between her and her doctor, Dr. Rick Almaguer. We, her family, recognize this and wish to express our sincere thanks. A special thanks to the staff who attended her and her family while she was under the care of the ICU until at the hospital. Also, treatment for her eyesight by Dr. Kenneth Houchin and his staff was greatly appreciated. Eileen was looking forward to receiving her new hearing aids from Audiologist Kath Miller and we know this would have greatly enhanced her quality of life. The community of Elko is extremely lucky and can be proud of not only their new hospital but the entire medical community.

The Family of Eileen C. Ray
