Once in awhile, an employee’s performance is so consistently outstanding that he or she is a department resource in addition to his or her “Job Description”. Phil Paget is definitely one of those rare souls. He is the department resource for not only his fellow surgical technicians, who respect him greatly, but to nurses and surgeons alike.

Orthopedic and other specialty representatives are on a first name basis with him; he is greatly trusted for accuracy and thoroughness.

Surgeons depend on his ability to figure out what they want from vague descriptions like “remember that long grasper thing we used three years ago on that really bad hip?” The beauty is, Phil does remember and can usually put his hands on that very item right away.

From a department director’s point of view, Phil is a joy to work with. He rarely if ever misses a day, works on off days if his fellow technicians need him, stays late and comes in early. His work is done with skill and dependability. He is trusted by all of us who are fortunate enough to work with him. He is the only person in the department who knows nearly all the idiosyncrasies of our very interesting computer system. He is conscientious to a fault.

He has taught the art of scrubbing, performed under extreme duress on very difficult procedures or with very difficult personalities, jumped in wherever he sees a need, and while doing this has established himself quite unintentionally as an excellent resource to all of us.

He has done several audits and data compilations for me, and done very well.

The Surgery Staff truly respect and admire Phil; he also has a quick smile, great sense of humor (and blushes quite well, too). We would be much less without his thoughtful behavior.

Phil will never seek the limelight but has deserved it for a very long time.
