Mike Long- December 2002, Service Excellence Award Winner
Mike Long, pictured here at his desk, is the Chief Financial Officer for Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital.
His coworker writes, “Mike is truly an asset to NNRH and a pleasure to work with. Some time ago I was called in to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) late in the evening. It was a crazy shift and they just needed an extra pair of hands to get caught up. Mike was the administrator on call and had come in to the hospital at the same time to deal with an issue in OB. (We greeted each other in the parking lot) After he was done, he stopped by the ICU to see if he could help out in any way. I don’t know about you, but I don’t ever remember seeing a CFO approach the ICU, let alone offer assistance. What he did not only made me feel good as a nurse manager but left a lasting impression on the ICU staff.”
Another says, “While the administrative assistant was away on funeral leave, Mike had her phones transferred to his telephone and he answered all calls coming into Administration. He took many messages for the Chief Nursing and Chief Operation’s Officer. Mike greeted visitors to the administrative area, helped me with a big copy job and repeatedly unlocked my door every time I locked myself out. He did all of these things with good humor and a smile. These examples show Mike’s commitment to service excellence and that he is truly putting people first. It would have been easy by virtue of his position, to ask that someone else come in to the area and cover the phones and greet visitors, but he took it upon himself to provide this assistance. Mike is an example of team work and service to others.”
