Diabetes and Obesity

National Diabetes Awareness is recognized annually during the month of November. While America’s waistline continues to grow, so do the number of cases of diabetes. According to the Centers for Disease Control, obesity is now the number-one health threat in the United States. The number of people who develop diabetes grows by a million per year and right now it affects about 17 million Americans; some unaware that they have it. The common symptoms of Diabetes are: Fatigue, increased thirst, increased urination, infections and cuts that don’t heal, blurred vision, hunger and weight loss. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, call your physician immediately. If you have diabetes; Manage your diet, get physically active, control your weight and check your blood sugars.

A diabetes support group meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, 6:00 - 7:00 PM at the hospital. For information call Dr. Browning – Keen at 775-748-2094.
