Pediatrics "Crash Cart"...
Hospital staff and their families are working to make the second floor more “kid friendly.”
A pediatric playroom is under renovation with a new cartoon-like cowboy theme mural on the walls. NNRH Case Manager, Ailsa Kompare, RN donated the paint-by-number mural. A local sorority and several members of the Elko Soccer Club will finish the artwork with paints donated by hospital RN, Mary Eichorn. The Hospital Auxiliary, ABATE and staff have donated funds and hand-made furniture to complete the playroom.
Mary Eichorn, RN, is shown standing next to a Pediatric “Crash Cart” with a color-coded reference manual she designed to accompany it. The cart contains a full range of medical equipment, sorted to accommodate specific weights and sizes of each young patient. The cart sits across the hall from the four rooms that will be decorated in a children’s theme. Chief Nursing Officer, Ann Cariker said, “When there are many patients in the hospital and none of them are young children, it is likely that an adult will occupy one of the rooms. Hopefully, the décor will cheer them up a bit.” A section of the hallway near the four pediatric rooms holds a desk where a nurse can sit to monitor the young patients. The desk will hold a laptop, radiophone and the pediatric resource manual.
