Auxiliary President’s Report
May 2003
I am writing this report on behalf of the NNRH Auxiliary. Our membership is 52 plus 10 on an in-active list.
We have had a busy year. The “Sugar Bush” gift shop continues to be open 6 days a week with an approximate income of $2,000 to $3000 per month. Our “Tree of Life” memorial trees continue to be well supported by the community. We have voted to award 5 Great Basin College nursing scholarships this fall for $1,000 each. The Book Fairs and Shoe/Uniform Sales have also helped our treasury.
Auxiliary members continue to help with the NNRH Health Fair, the community health awareness fair, blood drives, hospital advocacy program, make bonnets and buntings for newborns, give the ER activity kits for children, make muslin dolls for young x-ray and surgery patients, supply the CARE closet, arrange Flower Power flowers, make tray favors monthly for the hospital and nursing homes, decorate at Christmas, and distribute magazines in the hospital. Volunteers greet patients and visitors at the front desk, lab desk, and 2nd floor desk. They also help in the medical records and Physical Therapy departments.
The auxiliary has purchased 6 large cement benches for the hospital grounds and they are expected to arrive soon. They have also agreed to buy the gel for the antiseptic dispensers to be installed at the door to each patient room. DUDS for patients needing clothes to wear home have been purchased, donated, and organized in a room on the 3rd floor.
The American Legion has donated Josh dogs and books to the auxiliary to give to surgery patients 7 to 12 years of age.
We didn’t have our usual Membership Luncheon last fall but will have the Awards and Installation Luncheon in May in the Hospital classroom. The theme is “Thanks for Stepping Up” and a silver and gold auxilian will be honored and the new officers installed.
Alex Poirier, the hospital administrator, is well liked and very supportive of the auxiliary. Kerry Aguirre, NNRH Marketing Director and Auxiliary Liaison, is doing a wonderful job for the auxiliary. She has gotten us approval to have Volunteens in our organization and one teenager will begin volunteering this summer. She has also helped us ad a Web page to the NNRH website and keeps us informed and involved in other hospital functions.
Sincerely,
Pat Tempel

Joe & Cheryl Shine are pictured here with NNRH Auxiliary volunteer Judy Johns and "Josh" the puppy. Each "Josh"
comes in his own doghouse carrier and contains a book about his trip to the vet for surgery, titled "I'll Be OK." The set is presented to children
who have questions about their own surgery. Judy, retired Elko General Hospital R.N. said the kids really love them and the book seems to satisfy
their curiosity about what to expect. Joe and Cheryl foster parents and active community volunteers, have graciously donated several of the puppies
which are distributed through the hospital auxiliary.
