POIRIER RESIGNS POSITION AS CEO

(Elko, NV -- Thursday, June 3, 2004) -- Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, Chief Executive Officer Alex M. Poirier officially announced his resignation to the Hospital Advisory Board on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. The resignation followed his acceptance as Chief Executive Officer for a 140-bed hospital with an attached 240-bed nursing home in Pennsylvania. Poirier said, “It is a good opportunity for me and Pennsylvania is much closer to our extended families.”

In the meantime, hospital spokesperson Kerry Aguirre said, “We have a strong hospital advisory board that will be intimately involved in the search for the new Chief Executive Officer.” Hospital Board Members include: Brent Chamberlain, Chair; Paul Killpatrick, Vice Chair; Ted Blohm, Dr. Maureen Durkin, Mary Korpi, Dr. Mitchell Miller, Mike Nannini and Dr. Jill Oswalt.

Tom Salerno, Western Region Vice President for Province Healthcare Company said, “Alex Poirier has initiated positive change in physician, employee and community relations. He has been an effective leader in our hospital as well as in the community. We hope Alex and his family are very happy in their new home.”

A national search for candidates to fill the position has already begun. Poirier’s last official day at NNRH is July 2nd and he is expected at his new desk on July 12th. During the transition, an interim CEO will ensure hospital operations continue to run smoothly.

Poirier wishes to thank the medical staff, hospital employees and the community for their support while he and his family have lived in Elko. “I have enjoyed the progress we made together and I believe the progress will continue until the concept of a Regional Referral Center is realized.”
